Ballater is located in the heart of the Royal Deeside. The beautiful village is amongst the Cairngorm National Park and is one of Scotland’s most scenic visitor spots.
Ballater is a centre for tourism and boasts a variety of activities, accommodation, eating, drinking and shopping spots. The 18 hole Ballater Golf course is situated in perfect sight of the Cairngorm mountains. Ballater is a gateway to the great outdoors and is surrounded by nature with endless opportunities for walking, climbing and skiing. Ballater is home to many challenging walks due to the abundance of Munros surrounding it.
There are several castles located near the Cairngorms, including Braemar Castle, Crathes Castle and Craigievar Castle. The most famous is Balmoral Castle, which is the summer residence of the Royal Family.
The old Ballater Station was a visitor attraction for many years. It held Queen Victoria’s waiting room and a replica royal carriage. The building was completely destroyed by a fire in 2015 and was rebuilt in the summer of 2018 to become a bistro, with an adjoined visitor centre.
Ballater is a friendly village, which welcomes people from near and afar. Although small, there is plenty to do here - and what better way to round off your visit than a trip to The Balmoral Bar.
